Fees & FAQs
RealMind Psychology is a private-billing practice, providing individual psychological support and therapy to adults (18+).
Sessions are currently available at our consulting rooms in Spring Hill, or via Telehealth or video link. I offer appointments between 8:30 AM and 5:00 PM Monday to Thursday, and occasionally on other days or times at my discretion.
Please note, the Australian Psychological Society (APS) has set the recommended rate for seeing a psychologist at $300 per session. However, actual fees charged are at each psychologists discretion.
Currently I charge $187 for a 50-minute consultation, with payment due at the time of the consultation. These fees are reviewed twice yearly in March and September, and are adjusted to account for the ever-growing skill and experience of practitioners, as well as for inflation.
Payment can be made via credit card, debit card, or bank transfer, and following processing you maybe eligible to claim private health of Medicare rebates, see the below sections on rebates.
If you have concerns about covering the fees associated with your session, plus reach out prior to making a booking.
Most clients attend sessions with a psychologist after being referred by their GP, however this isn’t compulsory. You may choose to self-refer, however doing so will mean you are unable to receive Medicare rebates, with the full fee payable by you.
With a valid referral and under a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) from your GP, you will be able to access Medicare rebates for the therapy sessions RealMind Psychology offers. Currently this rebate amounts to $93.35 per session, and up to 10 sessions per calendar year are claimable. This leaves a total out of pocket cost of $93.65 for each session. On the day of your session the full amount ($187) is payable by you, with the rebate processed directly to you following receipt of full payment of the session fee.
Some people with private health insurance may be eligible to claim rebates for their sessions with RealMind Psychology. If eligible, you can claim these rebates from your insurer after each session, following payment by you on the day.
Please be aware that you if you are unable to use private health insurance cover to access a rebate if you are already accessing Medicare rebates, and vice versa.
We require at least 48 hours notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment with us. This is to ensure than we have sufficient time to allocate your space to another client who may be in need of the session.
If you cancel within 48 hours of the session start time, 50% of the session fee will be incurred.
If you cancel within 24 hours of the session start time or fail to arrive for your scheduled appointment, 100% of the session fee will be incurred.
Rebates can also not be claimed for cancelled sessions, thus the full amount would be borne by you.
These fees are rarely waived, but a waiver may be considered in extraordinary circumstances and at the psychologists sole discretion.
